Matchbox Massacre is an arcade-style game where you run around as a sentient ball of fire, lighting sentient matches to get a high score.

This game is a solo-dev project for the Pirate Software Game Jam 16. The theme is "You Are the Weapon," which I interpreted as a player character who doesn't need to attack; he is the attack.

Programming, art, and SFX are all done by me, the music is a collection of royalty-free tracks from Pixabay (credited in the game).

I hope you all enjoy the game! Beat my high score of 499 (if you dare!)

NOTE: If your computer uses an AMD graphics card, particles may not show up during gameplay due to a bug within the Godot engine. Apologies for the inconvenience!

cool game but so loud for me

Sorry about that, I'll see if I can make an audio slider before the deadline!

Pretty cool. I like the way the matches run away as you approach them. The only grievance I have is time powerups showed up a lot less as it got closer to the end. Even then, it only added 2 seconds or so.

Thanks for the feedback! Power-ups have a 3% chance to spawn every time a match is defeated, so theoretically power-ups should spawn more often later since more matches spawn as the game goes by. At the end of the day though, it depends on how lucky you are. I also tried to make sure they're not too over-powered, so I though a 3-second increase to the timer was balanced, but if it proves to be under-powered, I'll change it. If they spawn too often or are too powerful, then the game would go on forever.
